Membership Information
When can i join?
Membership to Scouts BSA and Troop 138 is available year round so joining is quite easy. We accept all boys between the ages of 11-17 years of age. If you are coming from a CubScout Pack, you would typically cross over to the Troop at the end of your Webelo 2 scouting year (end of 5th grade).
how can i join?
Before joining, we recommend that you attend one of our open meeting nights to get a preview of our program (maybe even attend a few). Once you are ready to join we can accept applications in person or online.
What costs are associated with joining?
The costs to join Scouts BSA are $85 per year (January - December). These fees only cover your National Membership to Scouts BSA. All other costs are determined by your Troop with the exception of uniforms and handbooks.
How much does scouting Cost per year?
The cost of Scouting per year can vary from unit to unit. Out-of-pocket costs depend greatly upon the activities and events your Troop chooses to participate in, fundraising, and the activities the individual Scout attends. Associated costs for Scouting are comparable to many other extra-curricular activities including but not limited to things like baseball, football, band, soccer, etc.
What gear/Items will I need for Scouting?
Within the first 30 days of joining a troop we suggest that you purchase a Class A/Field Uniform Shirt as well as your Scout Handbook. These two items are essential for every scout. Optional items that you may also purchase would include scout pants, a scout belt, neckerchief (red) and slide, merit badge sash, scout hat, and the shoulder loops (green).
Prior to your first campout you will need a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad/cot, flashlight, mess kit, camp chair, and water bottle.
